The programs on this Web site are developed by the American professor, Talha Abubakr, who has been teaching math and science at community colleges in the USA for over 15 years.

The Math Tutor

In mathematics, many students need to be reminded of the method for solving every problem. Professor, Abubakr math programs explain the methods for solving math problems in a tutorial fashion. He was able to program Microsoft Agents to be the tutors that walk you through the steps for solving math problems. After clicking on the "Tutorial" button of the program, a Microsoft Agent will explain the steps for solving a particular problem. Every time a user clicks on the "Tutorial" button, a new example is presented with the agent (tutor) explaining the steps for solving that specific problem. After seeing many examples, the user will be ready to click on the "Practice" button to start practicing the steps learned in the tutorial.

When practicing, the Microsoft Agent provides continuous feedback and the score is posted on the screen. When the user's score drops below 70%, a flashing message is shown to encourage the user to continue practicing until the user's score is improved.

The programs were tested with some students and the results were very impressive. The students were able to learn in a way that was otherwise not possible in a classroom setting. Some students reported that they had great fun learning how to solve algebra problems in a very short time.

The students are encouraged to use the programs in the following order:

1- Conversions

2- Signed Numbers

3- Simple Equations

4- Equations with Coefficients

5- Multiplication of Binomials

6- Factoring

7- Factoring Quadratic Equations

8- Completing the Square

9- Quadratic Formula

 

Professor, Abubakr recommends that the students spend enough time using the programs until they reach a score of 90% or better. After few days, some students forget the concepts they learned. For that reason, it is a good idea to use the programs every couple of days.

The Math Solver

 

The Math Solver helps the students see the answer and the steps for solving math problems. The user enters the problem and The Math Solver shows the solution for that specific problem. The Math Solver covers the following topics:

Passwords 6.0 is a small program for keeping usernames and passwords. The program can store up to 500,000 characters. A drop-down text box displays all the stored usernames. The user can also search for any username using the search button.
