"because children need both parents"
IS THE FAMILY COURT ESSENTIAL ?
In these times of financial crisis every citizen is suffering. Perhaps it's time to look at some of our useless government programs and 'cut the fat'.
Never have so many done so little for so few for so much. Anonymous Nevada Legislator
OBAMA, STOP THE SPIN
Kathleen Parker has an excellent article on fathers and the misrepresentations that occur in politics to get votes. Those of us who had high hopes that Obama was a new kind of politician who cared about truth and American families would do well to read this article. How sad that he is either disingenuous or uninformed. HAPPY FATHERS DAY
To all the fathers especially those who can't be with their children on this special day because they were kidnapped by a family court system which cares more about helping the divorce lawyers than Nevada's families.
MOMS ARE BETTER PARENTS THAN DADS
Everyone knows that kids are better off when mom has custody. Take for example this fine example of parenting. How did family court contribute to this tragic outcome ??
JUDGES WHO ONLY LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER, NO WAY
This can't be true. I am shocked. A fraudulent system so that Judges who are thrown off the bench or retire can still feed at the public trough. Not in America.... I guess we should be glad though, because judge Hardesty says we are getting a real value. Wow a Costco Judge thats great ! I guess this story directly relates to the one just below.
WHO TEACHES THE JUDGES ?
How prophetic. We have been raising the issue of corrupt and incompetent family court judges for 9 years. Todays RGJ has a story about fraud and corruption at the National Judicial College. These are the people teaching our Judges about ethics. No wonder our Judges are so bad. Here is a quote from a 2006 RGJ article by Mary Mentaberry. Maybe SHE doesn't understand our Justice system.. IT'S ALL ABOUT PROTECTING THE WOMEN
Department of Justice statistics show domestic violence (DV) in married, intact couples is only 2% http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/intimate/victims.htm. So why do the public and state legislators believe that partner violence is out of control?
Each year the federal government bankrolls the domestic violence industry to the tune of $1 billion. That money is authorized by the Violence Against Woman Act (VAWA) and other laws.
Much of that money is awarded to state domestic violence coalitions. In at least three cases – New Hampshire, Maine, and West Virginia – these coalitions have denied membership to organizations that proposed to provide domestic violence services to male victims of domestic violence in spite of Section 40002(b)(8) of VAWA 2005 which states, "Nothing in this title shall be construed to prohibit male victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking from receiving benefits and services under this title".
State DV coalitions often sponsor biased training programs to legislators, judges, and the public, falsely claiming that domestic violence is "overwhelmingly" perpetrated by men. (For examples, see RADAR’s Special Report, "Education for Injustice" – http://mediaradar.org/docs/RADARreport-Education-For-Injustice.pdf)
In addition, state DV coalitions have become lobbying organizations. In many states they have successfully pressured legislators to weaken protective order standards and enact all-encompassing definitions of DV. They have also pushed state legislatures to adopt mandatory arrest polices, no-drop prosecution, and primary aggressor laws.
BAD JUDGES?, NOT IN NEVADA
Yet another rotten apple. As our Judiciary continues to insist it is doing a good job and refuses to make a real effort at reform here is a story of another bad Judge. When will they learn??
DO KIDS REALLY NEED BOTH PARENTS ??
Warren Farrell is the most influential writer on the subject of shared parenting alive today. He has single handedly pushed this issue into the public consciousness despite being hugely outnumbered and out gunned by the opposition. Click this link to see a talk by Dr Farrell which will change your mind forever on why a presumption of shared parenting is critical to the survival of our children and our society. This is the most concise intelligent discussion on this topic I have ever seen. Watch , Listen, and learn.
ABOLISH FAMILY COURT
Anyone who has been in Nevada for several years can recall when our legislature in all their wisdom established the family Court in 1992. After 5 years of a dysfunctional and incompetent court our wise legislators were forced to convene a subcommittee to study the numerous problems they had created. One of the main suggestions at the time was to abolish the court. Makes sense, we created it, it isn't working, get rid of it. But this common sense flies in the face of one of the basic tenets of government. Never, EVER, get smaller. Keep growing ever-expanding because as we know government is the largest employer in the state. We cannot expect government to reign itself in, we must do that. So it is not surprising that the idea of abolishing Family Court was completely dismissed and never considered a serious option. Click here to read the minutes of the hearings of that committee. This makes fascinating reading and is a perfect example of how once a government program is established it is impossible to get rid of. So the family law system must find new and inventive ways to get into our lives and micromanage our families to justify their huge bureaucracy. How much money could we save for education and other vital programs if we abolished family court ?
FAMILY COURT REFORM ?
As the media is filled with more and more stories of government and judicial corruption the Supreme Ct of Nevada has formed the "Article 6 Commission". The task of this group of mostly attorneys is " to examine not only the constitutional provisions governing the judiciary, but also any other major concerns about the Nevada Courts that are identified, even if not specifically referenced in the Nevada Constitution.” Will the commission examine the bias and corruption of the Family Courts? Insiders tell us that the real goal of the commission is to pass the modified Missouri Plan through the Legislature so that Judges will be appointed rather than elected. Will that solve the problem? Probably not, the Judges will just be corrupted by a different set of masters. For once let us have a government body that does what it is tasked to do. Contact every member of the commission ( they are listed under the link) and let them know there are serious problems in the Family Court. One small step would be a presumption of joint custody. Let your Legislators know you support that presumption as not only the right thing but the constitutional thing to do.
